Welcome to Mount Si High School's National Honor Society Website!
The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of
Secondary School Principals in order to "promote high academic standards, a
means of ensuring the contination of democracy, and an instrument for the
betterment of the indicidual and the school. [1]" ot;
The first chapter was chartered at Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. Today there are over 20,000 chapters in the U.S. Today, the honor
society is a national club made up of the nation's top students. These students
have been chosen for exibiting the honor society's Four Traits:
Character: "The student of good character upholds principles of morality and
ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability,
shows courtesy, concern and respect for others and generally maintains a good
and clean lifestyle. [2]"
Scholarship: Mount Si Honor Society members are required to maintain a 3.5 GPA,
an even higher standard than the National Honor Society.
Leadership: "Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem
solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and
persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can
be drawn from school or community activity while working with or for others."
Service: "This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a
student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a
positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit." Mount Si Honor Society members
are required to complete a minimum of 15 hours of community service annually, 5
of which must be done within club-sponsored activities.

Please direct any questions you may have about your specific account or NHS policy questions to the NHS Officers as I am now graduated and do not know such things.
